Applying for a role
We value innovative, analytical, forward-thinking individuals who can make a difference in the way we do things. Our recruitment process has four stages:
- Application
- Selection
- Suitability assessments
- Offer
Application
Read through the role’s position description and selection criteria very carefully. In your application you must provide the following documents:
- Your curriculum vitae (CV) – to include your contact details, a brief summary of your work history, education, qualifications and training.
- A cover letter – in relation to the selection criteria outlining how your skills, knowledge and experience will be relevant to the role. In your response, you should provide examples or achievements to demonstrate your suitability for the role. If you fail to provide a cover letter, your application may not be considered for the position.
- Nominated referees who can speak on your skills, experience and achievements relevant to the position.
Reasonable adjustments

Selection
We will contact you to inform you if your application has progressed to the selection phase. This stage will typically include:
- a panel interview
- a written and/or technical skills assessments
- a professional reference check – we ask for two professional references, with one of these being a current manager
Suitability Assessments
To be employed at NOPSEMA you will be required to satisfactory complete employment suitability checks, which include identity and health checks, and a national police clearance.
Offer
If you are successful in the selection process and employment suitability checks, we will make you an offer. We will then send you information on working at NOPSEMA and your employment conditions.

Temporary Employment Register
In addition to our advertised vacancies, NOPSEMA maintains a temporary employment register of interested applicants to fill non-ongoing (temporary) roles for initial periods of up to 12 months within its Regulatory Operations, Strategic Regulation, Offshore Renewables and Corporate divisions. These positions within NOPSEMA are generally regulatory, corporate, or administrative roles.
Regulatory
Applicants with technical engineering, environmental science and offshore renewable backgrounds in specific areas within the offshore energy sectors may be engaged to fulfil a range of regulatory positions. Examples include Safety and Integrity Engineers, Regulatory Specialists, Well Integrity, Engineers, Well Integrity Specialists, Environment Specialists, Environment Officers, Decommissioning Specialists and Offshore Renewable Specialists.
Corporate and Administrative
Applicants with general and expert corporate and administrative skills may be engaged to fulfil a range of administrative positions. Examples include Regulatory Assistant, Communications Advisor, Procurement Officer, Management Accountant, HR Adviser, Systems Administrator, Business Services Officer and Legal Counsel.

- Your application should include a current CV and a covering letter (no more than two A4 pages) detailing relevant skills, knowledge and experience in the area(s) in which you express an interest in working.
- Applications submitted to NOPSEMA’s Temporary Employment Register will remain active until 31 December 2025. If you wish to remain on the register after this date, you will need to re-apply.
- Your application will be held online, and you will be able to access, retrieve and update your application and resume should you wish to re-apply.
- Applications must be submitted by the closing date.
Eligibility
To be eligible for non-ongoing employment with NOPSEMA, you:
- must be an Australian Citizen
- will be required to undertake pre-employment checks, including health, character and declaration of any real or perceived conflicts of interest
- must satisfy any mandatory qualification requirements or security assessment applicable for the position
- will be prohibited from trading in oil and gas and offshore energy sector shares
NOPSEMA engagement will be offered on a short-term, irregular or intermittent basis.
