Information Publication Scheme

NOPSEMA participates in the Information Publication Scheme established by Part 2 of the The Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act). The following information is published under the provisions of the scheme:

NOPSEMA's functions are detailed in Section 646 of the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 (OPGGS Act) and include:

  • to promote the occupational health and safety of persons engaged in offshore petroleum or greenhouse gas storage operations

  • to develop and implement effective monitoring and enforcement strategies to secure compliance by persons with their obligations under the OPGGS Act and the relevant regulations in respect of:

    -   occupational heath and safety

    -   environmental management

    -   structural integrity of facilities, wells and well-related equipment

  •  To investigate accidents, occurrences and circumstances that: To advise persons on occupational health and safety matters relating to offshore petroleum operations

    -   affect, or have the potential to affect, the occupational health and safety of persons engaged in offshore petroleum or greenhouse gas operations

    -   involve, or may involve deficiencies in offshore petroleum environmental management

    -   involve, or may involve, deficiencies in the structural integrity of facilities, wells and well-related equipment

  • To advise persons on occupational health and safety matters relating to offshore petroleum operations

  • To cooperate with other government agencies

There are no categories of information which NOPSEMA routinely provides in response to FOI requests.

NOPSEMA regularly consults stakeholders in development of administrative or technical practices used to administer the regulations. Details of any currently active consultations are posted on the NOPSEMA homepage.

NOPSEMA's CEO appoints officers under the OPGGS Act that exercise powers in accordance with NOPSEMA's functions. Details of these appointments are:

NOPSEMA's preference is to publish information provided to FOI applicants through its website at no cost. If the documents are in such quantity or format that it would be impractical to publish in this manner, then on request, a copy of any documents held in electronic format will be provided on CD or DVD media for a fixed fee of $40.
