NOPSEMA update on covid-19 situation
NOPSEMA is taking action to ensure that our important role as the offshore energy regulator continues effectively as the COVID-19 situation unfolds. These actions are being guided by the specific needs and characteristics of the offshore industry and advice from government such as the Australian Department of Health, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Australian Public Service Commission.
NOPSEMA recognises the threats presented by COVID-19 to the offshore industry, our staff, and the broader community. In recognition of these threats, NOPSEMA is transitioning our workforce to operate remotely in a manner that will ensure sustainable delivery of regulatory services in the short and longer terms.
We anticipate that all NOPSEMA staff will be working remotely from 23 March until otherwise advised, following significant tests of our systems for large scale remote operations. We are confident that we have the capacity to provide all required regulatory support and to continue our regulatory operations.
NOPSEMA’s staff and inspectors remain contactable and we continue to engage with duty holders and other stakeholders through traditional means, together with teleconferencing and other tools in place of face-to-face meetings. We are prioritising the support and advice we provide to ensure business continuity and appropriate regulatory oversight of the offshore industry.
Duty holders should continue to liaise with their focal point inspector at NOPSEMA. Other external parties should email NOPSEMA via communications@nopsema.gov.au. The NOPSEMA incident notification line operates 24 hours at 1300 674 472.
