Open for comment: discussion paper - notifications - damage to safety critical equipment

25 July, 2019

NOPSEMA has published a discussion paper on 'damage to safety critical equipment' for public comment. Interested stakeholders are encouraged to have their say, with the view to incorporating feedback and recommendations from the paper to form new guidance.

The paper highlights that although the notification and reporting of dangerous occurrences includes ‘damage to safety critical equipment’, the OPGGS Act and the Safety Regulations do not provide a definition. Evidence from inspections and notifications suggests operators do not share a common definition, nor have a consistent approach to notifying NOPSEMA of damage to safety-critical equipment.

The paper extends on ideas already presented in existing NOPSEMA guidance notes, and seeks to provide further clarity on notification and reporting of damage to safety-critical equipment.

To provide feedback on the guidance please submit comments to safetycaseguidance@nopsema.gov.au by no later than COB Friday, 6 September 2019.
