NOPSEMA has recently revised the Oil Pollution Risk Management guidance note (GN1488) which details the regulatory requirements for oil pollution risk evaluation and emergency planning, as set out in the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas (Environment) Regulations 2009.

The guidance note has been updated to provide additional clarity regarding NOPSEMAs expectations relevant to oil pollution risk management aspects of environment plans. The changes also address feedback from NOPSEMA inspectors, titleholders and other stakeholders.

Each section of the revised guidance note begins with a statement of NOPSEMAs expectations of titleholders in prevention, preparedness, response and/or recovery for oil pollution incidents. The expectations are further explained in the supporting guidance and are accompanied by self-check questions to assist titleholders to critically evaluate the content of an EP prior to submission to NOPSEMA.

NOPSEMA is inviting comment from industry and stakeholders. Feedback may be provided to submissions@nopsema.gov.au until Wednesday 04 August 2021.
